How This Site Earns Its Keep

Every "See this free tour" button, and every in-text link that opens a walk listing, points to GuruWalk and carries our referral code. GuruWalk is an independent platform for free and pay-what-you-want walking tours: we neither operate it nor are affiliated with it, and we do not run, staff or organise any of the walks listed here. The walks themselves are free to join. Nothing is charged on this site, nothing is charged to reserve a place, and what you give the guide at the end is entirely your decision. The referral code changes none of that.

The only other affiliate links on this site are the three hotels on the homepage, which point to Expedia through Travelpayouts. If you book one, we earn a commission out of Expedia's own margin and your room costs exactly what it would cost if you had opened Expedia yourself. No link on this site goes to any paid tour-booking platform.

The affiliate picture on this site is simple. Every walking tour listed here is a free, pay-what-you-want tour run by an independent local guide on GuruWalk, a platform we do not operate and are not affiliated with, and every walk link, including in the free walking tours directory, carries a GuruWalk referral code. There are no other booking platforms on this site. GuruWalk sets no fixed ticket price: at the end of the walk, you tip the guide whatever you think it was worth, and the referral code changes nothing about what you pay. The only other paid relationship is on the homepage, where three real Expedia hotel links are placed through Travelpayouts. Display ads, sponsored posts and paid reviews are all absent. Should a further network join at any point, it will be named here and in the footer disclosure first, so no link goes live unannounced.

The Parts Of A Paris Trip That Pay Us Nothing

Worth saying plainly, because for many visitors they are the better answer. A guided walk is one way into Montmartre or the Latin Quarter, and often a very good one, but it is not the only way. You can climb from Moulin Rouge to Sacré-Coeur on your own two feet, wander the lanes of Le Marais, sit in the Luxembourg Gardens, and nothing about that earns us a cent. So does Notre-Dame, which charges no admission, and the permanently free museum collections across the city, from the Petit Palais to the Musée Carnavalet, if you book or walk in yourself. A café table in Saint-Germain you reserve yourself, an afternoon on the Seine banks, an evening tracing the Haussmann boulevards, all of it pays us nothing. The one thing we can earn on is a walk reserved through one of our links, and where exploring a neighbourhood alone is the better call, the guides say so.

Even within the tours, we lead with what a GuruWalk page actually shows rather than dressing anything up. Every walk here publishes its rating and review count on GuruWalk, and the spread is honest: from the Essential Paris City Center Tour at 4.9 across 2,481 GuruWalk reviews down to a handful of walks still building their record. Two walks, Marina's Celtic-village walk and Jason's World War II Tour, publish no reviews at all, and their cards say exactly that rather than borrowing credibility from anywhere else.

What Money Cannot Buy Here

• Who gets in. A walk appears on this site only if it is a real, bookable free tour on GuruWalk today, run by an independent local guide, with figures that survived checking against the guide's GuruWalk page. Sixty-seven walks made the cut, sorted into six categories: historic centre, Montmartre, the Latin Quarter, Le Marais, history walks, and landmarks plus offbeat.
• Ranking. Positions are not for sale, and no guide or operator has been asked to pay for one. When one walk sits at the top of its category, it sits there because its GuruWalk listing earned it, and every rating and review count printed here is GuruWalk's own, so you can go and check the guide's page yourself.
• What we say about them. A walk carrying a single review sits in the same lineup as the most-reviewed tour on this site, the Spanish-language historic-centre walk with 4,804 reviews (checked September 2026), and the cards print both numbers as they are. A thin sample keeps its real count rather than being rounded up, and the two walks that publish no reviews at all are shown with no rating rather than a flattering guess.
• No prices, because there are none. Not one of the 67 walks carries a price tag. Each is free to reserve through GuruWalk, and the guide is paid only by the tip you choose to hand over at the end. So no card invents a number, and the details that actually matter, meeting point and start time, come from GuruWalk's own page for each walk.
• Things we earn nothing from. Walking Montmartre or the Latin Quarter on your own, Notre-Dame, the free museum collections, the Luxembourg Gardens, a café table in Le Marais you pick yourself, the whole city you can explore on foot for nothing. They still get their say wherever they beat a guided walk.

The Numbers We Show You

Every star rating and review count you see here is copied from what GuruWalk publishes for that specific walk, nothing more. We do not blend figures from elsewhere, round anything in a flattering direction, or invent a number to fill a gap. Where a walk's numbers could not be confirmed, the gap is shown rather than papered over. Among the published ratings on this site, the lowest sits at 3.67 on a handful of reviews and the highest is a straight 5, while review counts stretch from a single review up to 4,804 on Sebastian's Spanish-language tour of the historic centre.

Prices get the shortest treatment of all, because there are no prices to treat. Every walk in the directory is free or pay-what-you-want: you reserve a spot at no cost through GuruWalk, then tip the guide whatever the walk turned out to be worth to you. That is the whole payment model, and it is why no card here shows a from-price or needs one. The numbers that do appear come straight from each guide's GuruWalk page. Durations, for instance, run from Marina's one-hour walk through Celtic and Roman Paris up to two hours and forty-five minutes on the Spanish historic-centre tour, printed exactly as GuruWalk publishes them. Ratings and review counts follow the same discipline. And where a walk is too new to have reviews, from Jason's World War II Tour to Denise's Père Lachaise walk, we say so plainly instead of dressing it up.

Booking In A Way That Pays Us Nothing

Search the walk title on the platform directly and reserve there. Many listings name the operator that runs them, including StellarTours, Walkative!, Wokitour, Charing Cross Tours and independent guides like Sebastian and Aitana, and every walk on this site can be found and booked without going through us. We would genuinely rather you spent your morning in Montmartre or your evening in the Latin Quarter on whichever walk suits you. The category comparisons, the FAQ and the guides work exactly as well as research whether or not you ever click a booking link.
